At The Intersection of Vision & Culture...

Updated: Nov 14, 2022

L.E.A.D.E.R.S! The family, job, or organization you lead is built on people. Those people reflect the culture that you have inherited, allowed, or built. The thing about culture is its mountainous, yet intangible nature. Culture is delicate, even as it fills the room. It’s simple enough to describe but difficult to define. Y-O-U set the atmosphere for the culture of the people you lead. Just as the lighting, the décor, the music, and staff set a tone for the dining experience, YOUR leadership sets the tone for YOUR organization!

Equally important as culture is vision. The Bible itself specifically instructs this way:

"Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you…"

It must be noted that leaders should be “known among your tribes.” I love this! Not only was there a requirement for the practical skills of wisdom and understanding of what the cultural norms were, but also being respected by others. We often get excited about the rise of some articulate visionary and their contemporary impact but all too often they fade after a brief moment in the spotlight. A visionary is an attractive, charismatic individual but it is shared vision that makes even the most flawed leaders, heroes! Being different or new for the sake of it does not birth movements... but shared vision does.
